A Letter from Our New Senior Field Organizer, Vashti Selix: April 14, 2017

Hello fellow Bay Staters—nice to meet you. My name is Vashti, and I’m Freedom Massachusetts’ new senior field organizer. I have one goal in this new position: Build the grassroots campaign we need to protect #TransLawMA.

I’m not new to this fight. Last year I volunteered, I wrote my lawmakers—I did everything I could, and I was so proud when it passed. These protections have been life-changing for my transgender friends, allowing them to live safe, full lives.

But now, a harmful initiative will be on the November 2018 ballot that would repeal these protections. And the only way we’ll defend our state’s law protecting our transgender neighbors, friends and family from discrimination is by having thousands of face-to-face conversations and building a campaign unlike anything Massachusetts has seen before.

That’s why today I’m asking you to join our statewide Action Team to volunteer in your community, and help us protect #TransLawMA. Click here to sign up and someone from the team will be in touch.

Like I said, I’m not new to this fight—I know what it takes to run a winning campaign.

Since 2012, I’ve been immersed in the movement for LGBT equality, first helping win marriage equality, and then as an advocate for people living with HIV/AIDS. I’ve seen the power of grassroots movements firsthand: Ordinary people, engaging their friends and neighbors, can change communities—and whole countries.

It is this power of individuals that motivates me, as an organizer. And it’s how I know that if every supporter of transgender equality across the Commonwealth stands up for what’s right next year, #TransLawMA will remain the law of the land.

But we have start reaching out now. We can’t wait—because opponents of equality certainly aren’t. Join our statewide Action Team right now and help uphold these non-discrimination protections for our transgender friends and neighbors.

Looking forward to working with you,

Vashti Selix
Senior Field Organizer
